Maybe the awards ceremony really weren't as overlong, tedious, and self-congratulatory as we thought it was? Despite certain of our colleagues' seeming lack of enjoyment of the AVN Awards (oh, but will they be back trolling for extra-long sheet-hookers to snort lines off of next year? Yes!), I was pleasantly surprised with how the show reduced the instances of cringitude from last year's (x) to this year's (x-5).

People like Nick Manning (seen here with former Hustler contract lady Jessica Jaymes, already experienced with people named Nick) intoned his famous-in-the-industry catchphrase "Droppin' Loads!" several times for red carpet cameras and onstage, cracking up every time at how silly it was. As this event grows bigger and more expensive, it would be Mandalay-mentable to forget that porn is supposed to be fun and not taken so seriously, despite its recent proximity to broody fare like "Corruption" and joy vacuums like Gene Simmons (who presented an award for something, but we were too busy enjoying our lives to pay attention). - GP

The figures documenting the average career span of a female porn performer are not nearly as vague as those purporting to reflect how much money the adult industry makes. The truth is that most actresses stay in the business for about a year, total, including hiatuses and premature retirements. If anything, our recent trip to Las Vegas was significant for seeing lots of ex-porn stars coming out of the woodwork to bask in the familiar glow.

One of the newly crowned AVN Performer of the Year Hillary Scott's many qualities is her lack of attention-seeking behavior. The multi-AVN-Award-winning Chicago gal turns on the charm when necessary but seems most comfortable keeping casual.

In dirtpipe milkshakes as in technology, the world tends to follow in porn's footsteps. Digital Playground, which last year came out firmly on the side of the nascent Blu-Ray format, has changed its mind, releasing several titles on HD DVD. Cross-Porn Valley colleague Wicked Pictures has also started down the HD DVD route, opting for the less dramatic improvement in DVD features offered by HD DVD (Blu-Ray is feature-packed but much more of a lifestyle change than its rival) in an adult marketplace in which DVD sales are dropping.

Go play outside or something) have been enthralled by blanket coverage of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, courtesy of the nerd patrols at Gizmodo and Kotaku. (And some other places too.) At a quiet ceremony at the Venetian Hotel (it is often eerily quiet here, as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced), Lexington Steele unveiled his two-color, two-way version of one of the notable aspects of his person.
